The short answer is yes — the majority of our customers stay in their homes throughout the rewire. We work room by room, restore power at the end of each working day, and keep disruption to a minimum.
However, it's worth knowing that staying in the property does add a small amount to the overall cost. Each evening we need to reinstate power and put floorboards back down so you can use the property overnight — this takes additional time. If you're able to move out temporarily, the job will be slightly cheaper and quicker. It's not necessary, but worth considering if you have the option.
Power is typically restored each evening so you can cook, shower and use appliances normally. During working hours, sections of the house may be without power as we work through each circuit.
Chasing cables into walls creates dust and plaster. We use dust sheets and hoover up daily, but some dust is unavoidable. Most customers do a deep clean after the job is complete.
We work systematically through the property so you can still use most rooms while we work in others. We'll agree a programme with you before starting.
We'll need access to all rooms including loft space. We work standard hours (typically 8am–5pm) Monday to Friday so there's minimal disruption to your evenings.
In most cases yes. We restore power each evening so your boiler and heating system will work normally outside working hours. During the day, when we're working on specific circuits, some areas may be temporarily without power.
We'll work with you to ensure your kitchen circuits are operational or only off for short periods. Fridges and freezers can typically remain plugged in throughout.
Most customers don't need to. However, if you have young children, pets, or health conditions that make living in a building site difficult, it's worth considering temporary alternative accommodation for the duration.
Honest answer — there will be dust and some disruption. We do everything we can to minimise it, but a rewire involves chasing cables into walls and ceilings throughout the whole property. Most customers plan a post-rewire clean and redecoration.
